Coffee Drip Bags

Drip coffee bags give you a proper filter brew without the equipment. Each bag contains real ground specialty coffee in a single serve filter that hooks over your mug, ready for you to pour over with hot water. The Axil range spans expressive favourites such as Cherry Pie and Peachy Keen, rotating single origin releases and the Explorer Pack for tasting across the range. Keep a few coffee bags handy for travel, hotel rooms, camping, the office or anywhere a full brewing setup is not practical.

What a Drip Bag Actually Is

A coffee drip bag is a pre portioned serve of ground coffee packed inside a small paper filter with fold out arms.

Open the sachet, tear along the top of the filter and rest the arms over the rim of your mug. From there, you brew it like a simple pour over, gradually adding hot water and allowing it to pass through the ground coffee into the cup below.

Most importantly, drip bags are not instant coffee.

Instant coffee has already been brewed before being dehydrated into soluble Fgranules or powder. Add water and it dissolves.

A drip bag contains actual ground coffee. Hot water extracts flavour from the grounds as it passes through the filter, just as it would with other filter coffee brewing methods.

You get a freshly brewed cup without needing a grinder, brewer, scales or a bench full of equipment.

Where Drip Bags Earn Their Place

Drip bags are all about convenience. Just add hot water for a proper cup wherever you are, whether that’s a hotel room, the office, a campsite or somewhere in between.

They also belong in an office drawer for days when the coffee options nearby are not doing it for you.

And then there are mornings when the equipment is technically available, but the time is not.

The point is convenience without turning the coffee into something completely different. You still pour water through real ground coffee and brew a proper filter cup. We have simply taken care of the grinding, dosing and filter for you.

It is an easy way to take the Axil cup with you.

Choosing Between the Range

The Axil drip bag range moves between filter blends and rotating single origins, so how you choose comes down to the kind of cup you want.

Cherry Pie

Cherry Pie brings together coffees selected for a sweet, fruit driven filter profile. It is a good place to start if you want something expressive but balanced enough to come back to regularly.

You can also explore the broader Axil blends range if you want to see how we approach coffees built around a particular flavour outcome.

Peachy Keen

Peachy Keen leans further into juicy fruit and sweetness. If brighter and more playful filter coffees are usually your thing, this is the direction to go.

Like our Seasonal coffee, the focus is on letting the coffees available at the time shape what ends up in the cup.

Single Origin Drip Bags

Our single origin coffee bags put one particular producer, farm or origin at the centre of the brew.

The releases change as coffees come and go, making them a simple way to explore the same seasonal movement found across our Single Origin coffee range without bringing brewing equipment with you.

Some of the more expressive coffees and experimental processing we work with also connect closely to our limited Signature Series releases.

Explorer Pack

Not sure where to start? The Explorer Pack gives you a chance to brew your way across the range before deciding which style deserves a permanent spot in the travel bag or office drawer.

Different coffees, same simple setup.

Why Axil Coffee?

We have been roasting coffee in Hawthorn, Melbourne since 2010. Across the Axil team are two World Barista Championship titles and seven Australian Barista Championship titles. Those titles have sharpened the way we taste coffee, understand consistency and work with producers, but the same thinking is applied to the coffee we serve every day.

Our sourcing starts with specialty grade green coffee bought close to harvest. We work directly with producers, with some relationships spanning more than a decade,, giving us a closer understanding of the farms, people and coffees behind each lot. Once the green coffee reaches Hawthorn, we roast to order.

The same approach feeds into the coffee poured across Axil’s own venues every day. Having our roasting and café teams connected means we can keep tasting, learning and adjusting rather than treating coffee as a finished product once it leaves the roaster.

Drip bags simply make that coffee easier to take somewhere else.

Take Axil With You

Before your next trip, camping weekend or run of office mornings, put a few drip bags within reach. All you need is hot water and a mug.

Choose the coffee that sounds like you, or start with the Explorer Pack and work across a few different cups before settling on a favourite.

And if you would rather keep freshly roasted coffee arriving at home as well, explore our coffee subscriptions.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are drip bags the same as instant coffee?

No. Drip coffee bags contain real ground coffee inside a filter. Hot water passes through the grounds and extracts the coffee into your mug. Instant coffee has already been brewed and dehydrated, so it dissolves directly in water.

---

How do you use a coffee drip bag?

Tear open the outer sachet, open the top of the coffee filter and pull out the foldable arms. Rest the arms over the sides of your mug, then slowly pour hot water over the ground coffee. Let each pour drain through before adding more water, then remove the bag once the brew is complete.

---

How much water should I use in a drip bag?

Around 150ml is a useful starting point for an Axil drip bag. Pour the water slowly over roughly three minutes to give the coffee enough contact time to extract. You can use slightly more or less water depending on how strong you like your cup.

---

Can you reuse a drip bag?

We recommend using each coffee drip bag once. The first brew extracts most of the flavour from the ground coffee, so running more water through it again will usually produce a weak, flat cup.

---

How long do drip bags stay fresh?

Each drip bag is individually sealed to protect the ground coffee from air and moisture until you are ready to brew it. Check the best before information on the packaging and store the bags somewhere cool and dry, away from direct heat and sunlight.

---

Are the drip bags compostable or recyclable?

The coffee grounds can generally be added to compost or a food organics collection where your local service accepts them. Disposal of the filter, support arms and outer sachet can vary depending on the packaging materials and local facilities, so check the pack and your council's recycling guidance rather than placing the whole drip bag into kerbside recycling.
