Specialty Coffee Blends

Axil blends are built for consistency. Roasted in Melbourne, they’re the same coffees poured across Axil venues every day and made to deliver a familiar flavour profile cup after cup. Blends take the best parts of coffees from different origins and combine them into a pleasing flavour outcome. The result is a dependable everyday coffee that holds its own with milk and works beautifully across espresso, plunger and stovetop brewing.

Blends or Single Origin: Which Is Right for You?

The difference between a blend and a single origin coffee comes down to what you want from the cup. A blend combines coffees to create a repeatable flavour profile. The individual coffees may change as harvests move through the year, but the goal stays the same: a familiar cup you can come back to every morning.

Single Origin coffee is different. It is selected to express the character of one particular producer, farm, region or lot, making it a chance to explore how origin, variety and processing shape flavour. Neither is better. They simply offer different experiences.

If you drink milk based coffee or want a dependable daily espresso, a blend is a great place to start. If you tend to drink your coffee black or enjoy filter brewing and discovering new flavours, explore our rotating single origin coffees.

Getting to Know the Axil Blends

Every Axil blend has its own character, giving you a few different ways to find your everyday coffee.

Seasonal

Seasonal is designed to move with the coffee harvest while maintaining the profile Axil drinkers know. The coffees that make up the blend may shift through the year as fresh harvests become available, keeping the cup consistent without standing still.

Heavyweight

Heavyweight is the fuller bodied option. It has been developed for coffee drinkers who want something richer and more pronounced, particularly through milk. If your regular order is a flat white, latte or cappuccino and you like your coffee to make itself known, start here.

Pele

Pele takes things in a brighter, more fruit forward direction. It sits comfortably between the familiar structure of an everyday espresso blend and the more expressive flavours often associated with Single Origin coffee.

Swiss Water Decaf

For coffee without the caffeine, Swiss Water Decaf delivers a proper specialty coffee experience without treating decaf as an afterthought. It is made for anyone who wants to keep the ritual and flavour while leaving the caffeine behind.

Not sure where you sit? The Blend Discovery Bundle brings Seasonal, Heavyweight and Pele together so you can compare the three before settling on a favourite. You can also explore our flavoured coffee range if you feel like trying something a little different.

From the Cafe to Your Kitchen

If you’ve had an Axil coffee in one of our venues, you already know the coffee in these bags.

Our blends are roasted by the same Melbourne team behind the coffee poured across Axil venues every day. Bringing a bag home is simply another way to enjoy the cup you already know, whether you’re pulling espresso before work, filling the plunger on a Sunday morning or putting the stovetop on after dinner.

And if one becomes part of your daily routine, our coffee blend subscriptions make it easy to keep your favourite Axil coffee coming regularly.

Why Axil Coffee?

Axil started roasting coffee in Hawthorn, Melbourne in 2010. Today, the same focus on quality and consistency runs through the coffee we source, roast and serve.

Our team holds two World Barista Championship titles and seven Australian Barista Championship titles, experience that feeds directly into the way we approach coffee every day.

That starts well before roasting. We build direct relationships with the producers we buy from, with some partnerships extending beyond a decade. We select specialty grade green coffee close to harvest, then roast to order in Hawthorn rather than relying on bags sitting in warehouse stock.

It is also coffee we know firsthand. The same blends available here are poured across Axil’s own venues every day, giving our roasting and café teams a constant connection to how each coffee tastes in the cup. Good coffee takes experience, strong relationships and attention to the details. That is what we bring to every bag.

Find Your Everyday Blend

Your everyday coffee should be one you genuinely look forward to. Choose the Axil blend that sounds most like your kind of cup, or start with the Blend Discovery Bundle and taste three of our most popular blends, Seasonal, Heavyweight and Pele side by side. Once you find the one, we’ll take care of the roasting.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between a coffee blend and a single origin?

A coffee blend combines coffees from different origins to create a particular and repeatable flavour profile. Single Origin coffee comes from one producer, farm, region or lot and is selected to showcase the character of that place. Blends are often suited to everyday espresso and milk coffee, while Single Origins are a great option for people who enjoy exploring different flavours.

---

Which Axil blend works best for milk based coffee?

Heavyweight is a great starting point if you regularly drink flat whites, lattes or cappuccinos. Its fuller body is designed to hold up particularly well through milk. Seasonal is another versatile option if you prefer something a little more balanced.

---

What grind should I choose for my brew method?

Choose a grind suited to how you make coffee at home. An espresso machine requires a fine grind, stovetop is generally slightly coarser and plunger needs a coarse grind. If you have a grinder at home, whole beans will give you the most flexibility and allow you to grind immediately before brewing.

---

How long after roasting should I use my beans?

Freshly roasted coffee is always it's best after it's had some time to rest before brewing. Once ready, you can enjoy your beans over a few weeks while is the coffee is at its freshest and most expressive.

---

How should I store my coffee at home?

Keep your coffee sealed in its bag or another airtight container in a cool, dry place away from heat, moisture and direct sunlight. Avoid leaving the bag open between brews, as exposure to air will gradually reduce freshness.

---

Do the blend recipes change throughout the year?

They can. Coffee is seasonal, so the individual origins within a blend may change as fresh harvests become available. The goal is to maintain the same overall flavour profile, allowing the recipe to move while keeping the cup familiar.
